Impaired Driving

This summer please plan ahead if you plan on drinking.

On average, 42 people are killed each summer in crashes involving impaired driving in B.C. If you’re out drinking, don’t get behind the wheel – choose a safe way home instead.

Keep your friends safe

Take your turn as the designated driver to help your friends and family get home safely. If you’re planning to drink, then arrange for a designated driver, call a taxi or a sober friend, or take transit.

When you drink and drive, you not only risk your life but those of others on the road. With so many options to get home safely, there is no excuse to drive while impaired. Your safety is just as important as others.

Don’t gamble with your car insurance

Also, you may not be covered under your Basic Autoplan insurance if you drive over the legal alcohol limit or under the influence of drugs.

If you crash while driving impaired, you’re likely in breach of your insurance policy. That means you could be personally responsible for 100 per cent of the costs if you damage someone else’s property or injure them.
