syn·er·gy: the increased effectiveness that results when two or more people or businesses work together
This was proven on Saturday, May 17th, when 12 of our patrol volunteers joined forces with the Vancouver Police Department’s Community Safety Personnel (CSP) for a day of crime prevention blitz.
Teams consist of 2 volunteers and 2 CSPs blanketed the area of Chinatown and beyond, liaising with merchants and engaging the general public, with the goals of promoting the following messages:
– Parking meter tempering awareness
– When to call 911 and/or non-emergency
– How to be a good witness
– VPD’s “Log It or Lose It” campaign
ICBC generously sponsored lunch and refreshments for the hardworking teams. Two SpeedWatch sessions were also held on Prior St., in response to resident requests.
The day ended successfully with hundreds of merchants contacted, and profiles of CCPC and VPD greatly raised. It’s proof that together we can accomplish more. We hope we have inspired people to be pro-active about fighting crimes and how it’s everyone’s business to keep the neighbourhood as safe as possible.
We are hoping there will be another day (or two!) of synergy coming up later this year. Meanwhile, we raise a toast to our hardworking volunteers, Sgt. Fred Ullrich and his CSP officers, and ICBC for a job well done!
