Our Chinatown Watch Community Patrol program officially started in 2000. Dedicated volunteers would patrol in and around Chinatown either on foot, or on bikes (extra training required), and always in teams of two.
Patrol volunteers receive training on how to effectively and safely serve as extra eyes and ears for the police. They also learn how to engage the public and convey crime prevention tips.
Volunteers also learn how to check for suspicious or stolen vehicles as part of the ICBC community initiative.
Our patrol volunteers also get together to conduct Speed Watch sessions, with equipment and training provided by ICBC. Sometimes we would even team up with volunteers from other Community Policing Centres for large Speed Watch event.
